なうまく　さんまんだ　ぼだなん　ばく

The temple was founded in 1476 by 印通法師 Saint Intsu.
Until the Meiji Restoration, it was a separate temple of 鹿島神社 Kashima Shrine
(currently 種生神社 Taneo Shrine), the local deity of Taneo Village.
In the main hall are also statues of 薬師如来三尊 Yakushi Nyorai with two side statues
and 十二神将 the 12 Heavenly Generals.
The main hall was restored in 1846.
Other old buildings were restored in 1960.
An old copy of the Sutra 大般若経 Dai Hannya Kyo from the Nara Period is an important cultural property.

The date of the founding is not clear.
Iseji is part of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrims road.

In the compound is a 閼伽井 Aka-I sacred well, opened by 弘法大師 Kobo Daishi when he visited here.

The Temple is located in 伊勢路 Iseji, a postal station of 宮街道青山峠 the Highway passing the Aoyama Toge Pass.

The founder of 称覚寺 Temple Shokaku-Ji, the Priest 道知和尚 Dochi Osho,
used the temple name around 1656.
He took home a branch from the famous 御杖銀杏 Tsue Itcho Tree
and planted it in his garden.
The branch begun to grow and became a larte Gingko tree.

When 後鳥羽院 the Emperor Gotoba In passed 善福寺 the Temple Zenpuku-Ji,
there were many frogs in the pond making a noise.
But the wind was very strong and their voices were hardly heared.
So he wrote this Waka poem:
蛙なく勝田の池の夕だたみきかまし物を松かぜの音
When he read the poem out loud, the wind stopped.

The main statue is 地蔵菩薩 Jizo Bosatsu.
It is a secret statue, kept in a special hall.

Other important statues are the Godai Myo-O 五大明王 Five Great Fudo Myo-O statues.

The temple was founded in 1267 by 真慧律師 Priest Shinkei Risshi
on request of 亀山天皇 Emperor Kameyama (1249 - 1305).
In front of the main hall is a red plum tree of more than 300 years old.
In a special storage room is the statue of Kannon Bosatsu of about 165 m hight.
carved by 小野篁 Ono Takamura.
Many buildings were lost to fires.
The present Kannon Hall was built in 1959.

Inari Myojin no Keshin 稲荷明神の化神 an Incarnation of Inari Myojin
If there was a strong rain, tha water of the river overflows and people can not cross 尼子橋 the bridge Amakobashi.
The wife of 岩城則道 Iwaki Norimichi, 徳尼 Tokuni, felt very sorry for the farmers.
One day an old man with white hair sighed in front of the hut of Tokuni, so she invited him in.
The old man said he was skilled in building bridges and would help.
He kept his word and within 30 days the bridge was built.

The old man crossed the bridge and said now they would not meet again.
He disappeared out of sight near the temple 薬王寺 Yakuo-Ji.
The old man was also called 尼子稲荷明神 Amako Inari Myojin.

Coming down the Noborio tooge 登尾峠 Noborio Pass toward 小野原 Onohara,
there is a place where the hidarugami ひだる神 Hunger Gods attack a human.
A few years ago a merchant who had just eaten lunch passed here.
He walked on but felt hungry all the time.
People from the nearby 薬王寺 Temple Yakuo-Ji
also often feel hungry when walking there.

Gyoki no toku 行基の徳 the virtue of Gyoki
On the road from 薬王寺 the Temple Yakuo-Ji in 阿波国海部郡比和左村 to 土佐国 Tosa (now 高知県 Kochi)
there is a retreat called
Gyoki An 行基庵 Gyoki Hermitage.
Once a mackarel merchant passed here and Gyoki asked for one fish as an offering.
But the merchant would not give him one.
Now Gyoki sung a song saying the horse of the merchant would fall ill.
And indeed, the horse fell ill.
The merchant was shocked and apologized.
Now Gyoki sung a song saying the horse would get well
and indeed, it got well immediately.
The story spread around and many people came to pray here and made a statue of Gyoki.

The main statue is 不動明王 Fudo Myo-O.

The temple was founded in 1594 by 円満上人 Saint Enman.
on request of 藤右衛門清胤 Fujiemon Kiyotane.

It was built in 1547.
It is now a 市原市有形文化財 Tangible Cultural Treasure of Ichihara city.

neko 猫 a cat
In front of the Temple 円満寺 Enman-Ji in Yushima there is a senbei rice cracker shop.
Every night a huge cat came there and ate many things.
So the owner caught the cat and killed it.
Then he asked his wife to get rid of it.
When the wife came back home, she scratched the skin of her husband's face
and started behaving like a cat.
The husband called some neighbours and finally they got rid of the wife / cat.
Now they heard the voice of the cat . . . miyaoooo, miyaoooo ...
When there was food on the table, the cat came, stuck her head in the bowl
and ate everything, especially the fish.

下総四郡大師 札所

Started in 1807.
In this pilgrimage, the 大師堂 Hall for Kobo Daishi is visited in four areras in Shimofusa (Chiba):
西部 Western District - 葛飾郡 Katsushika district, 相馬郡 Soma district, and 印旛郡 Inba district.
It was revitalized in 1909 by 梶原石五郎 Kajiwara Ishigoro.

The main statue is 子育観音 Kosodate Kannon Bosatsu to protect children.

Other statues are of
薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai, 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai, 地蔵菩薩 Jizo Bosatsu, 釈迦如来 Shaka Nyorai and 聖天 Shoten.

In the Muromachi area around 1500, 深慶和上 Priest Shinkei had this temple built as a retirement place
and it was called 下総国分寺 Temple Shimosa Kokubun-Ji.
The temple has typical flowers and blossoms for each season.
Not much more information is found online.

徳蔵院 大師堂 The Hall for Kobo Daishi

In the compound is a statue of 寿老人 the Lucky Deity Juro-Jin.

神奈川県横浜市港北区高田町1799 / Kanagawa, Yokohama city, Kohoku ward, Takada town

The main statue is 十一面観世音菩薩 Juichimen Kannon Bosatsu with 11 Heads.

The temple was founded in 853 by 慈覚大師円仁 Priest Jikaku Daishi Ennin.
He also placed a statue of 勝軍地蔵 Shogun Jizo Bosatsu, which he had carved himself.

In 1650 the Temple received more land and became very important.

- The Main Gate -
At the entrance at 山門（仁王門） the mountain gate are two large statues of the Nio deities.

In the compound is a 多宝塔 Tahoto Pagoda and
薬王殿 a hall for Yakuo, the Deity of Medicine,
where 薬師如来　Yakushi Nyorai is venerated.

In the compound are 十二干支守り本尊 12 statues of the yearly Zodiac animals.

at 興禅寺 Temple Kozen-Ji
At the wooden door made of a cedar tree there was an image
of an old woman pulling a mortar, and an old man standing near her.
Sometimes at night the two began to talk and there were strange noises in the room.
There were also images of musical instruments, which seemd to make sound at night.
It was all very strange and scary, so the doors were finally painted all black.

kitsune 狐 a fox，蛻庵稲荷 Setsuan Inari
A fox shape-shifted into a samurai and called himseld 蛻庵 Setsuan.
He said he was a messenger from Suwa Shrine.
He was soon found out.
He was now taken in at 興禅寺 Temple Kozen-Ji and fed.
When he was on an errand to 安国寺 the Temple Ankoku-Ji he was shot.
Soon there was an epidemy in the area and people said it was the curse of the fox.
People then venerated the fox an the tmeple Kozen-Ji as 蛻庵稲荷 Setsuan Inari.
