The main statue is 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.
The pilgrim statue is 延命地蔵菩薩 Enmei Jizo Bosatsu.
The temple was founded in 1243
and called 青鳥山延命寺 Odorizan Enmei-Ji.
In 1240 it had been built near 小名延命寺 Shomyo Enmeil-Ji,
In 1248 it became part of 後深草院 Gofukakusa-In and the mountain name was 大願山 Daiganzan.
In the Edo period the compound was very large with more than 30 sub-Temples.
In 1650, the temple got more land from the Edo government.

It was a large temple with seven important buildings, but all burned down.
In 1503 it was rebuilt by a priest of 臨済宗 the Rinzai sect.
The new Yakushi Hall holds the statue of 菰野薬師 Komono Yakushi.

Toorinji 桃林寺 Torin-Ji, Ogisu

The main statue is 釈迦牟尼佛 Shakamuni Buddha / 釈迦如来 Shaka Nyorai.
The temple has been built in 1181 by 将平資盛卿 Lord Shohei Sukemori.
The first priest was 覚快法親王 Crown Prince Kakukai, son of Emperor Toba.
The second priest was 慈円大僧正 Great Priest Jien.
At the time of the founding the precincts were quite large, with seven important bulidings.
Later it all burned down.
Since then it has been rebuild and burned down several times.
The large 梵鐘 temple bell is a prefectural cultural property.

The temple was founded in 1202 by 重源上人 Saint Chogen.
The Buddha Statue was made by 仏師快慶 Master Carver Kaikei.
建久七年(1196)源頼朝は、この地に叔父の佐々木秀義の追善供養のため、一宇を建てた。建仁二年(1202)東大寺再興の大勧進職、俊乗坊重源上人が頼朝の協力を得て、この地に後鳥羽法皇の勅願寺として創建した祈願道場、伊賀別所が当山の始まりである。寺号を新大仏寺とした。鎌倉時代には十余坊を有し、隆盛を極めたと伝えられるが、天正年間(1573~92)の戦乱で、伽藍の大半を失い荒廃の一途をたどる。芭蕉が「丈六にかげろう高し石の上」と詠んで荒廃ぶりを嘆いたのは、貞享五年(1688)のことである。その後、享保十一年(1726)陶榮和尚が再興を発願し、藤堂藩の庇護を仰いだ。
大仏修復を終え仮堂に安置したが、享保十四年(1729)所願果たせず、中興二世宝梁律師が延享五年(1748)に上棟し、入仏したのが現大仏殿である。
その後寺容を整えつつ今日に至っている。本尊毘盧遮那如来坐像は、木造、漆箔、台座を含めると高さ6mに及び、木造仏では類をみない大仏である。仏師快慶初期の作で若々しい張りがあり、国指定重要文化財である。このほか、興正菩薩画像、俊乗上人坐像、僧形坐像、板彫五輪塔も国指定重要文化財である。舎利塔は県指定文化財になっている。成田山を勧請して「伊賀の成田山」と呼んでいるが「阿波の大仏さん」、雨乞いの寺としても知られ八百年の歴史を刻む伊賀屈指の大刹である。

緑深い山が境内地になっており、麓に大仏殿、上人堂、開山堂など十数の堂宇が建てられている。平成七年に落慶した山門は立派なものである。ご本尊は宝蔵庫に安置され、春秋大祭日と正月以外は拝観料三百円を要する。境内では桜・あじさい・もみじや秋名菊が楽しめる。
伊賀四国八十八カ所第四番霊場、東海三十六不動尊第二十八番霊場、東海白寿三十三観音十四番霊場でもある。

建久七年(1196)源頼朝は、この地に叔父の佐々木秀義の追善供養のため、一宇を建てた。建仁二年(1202)東大寺再興の大勧進職、俊乗坊重源上人が頼朝の協力を得て、この地に後鳥羽法皇の勅願寺として創建した祈願道場、伊賀別所が当山の始まりである。寺号を新大仏寺とした。鎌倉時代には十余坊を有し、隆盛を極めたと伝えられるが、天正年間(1573~92)の戦乱で、伽藍の大半を失い荒廃の一途をたどる。芭蕉が「丈六にかげろう高し石の上」と詠んで荒廃ぶりを嘆いたのは、貞享五年(1688)のことである。その後、享保十一年(1726)陶榮和尚が再興を発願し、藤堂藩の庇護を仰いだ。
大仏修復を終え仮堂に安置したが、享保十四年(1729)所願果たせず、中興二世宝梁律師が延享五年(1748)に上棟し、入仏したのが現大仏殿である。
その後寺容を整えつつ今日に至っている。本尊毘盧遮那如来坐像は、木造、漆箔、台座を含めると高さ6mに及び、木造仏では類をみない大仏である。仏師快慶初期の作で若々しい張りがあり、国指定重要文化財である。このほか、興正菩薩画像、俊乗上人坐像、僧形坐像、板彫五輪塔も国指定重要文化財である。舎利塔は県指定文化財になっている。成田山を勧請して「伊賀の成田山」と呼んでいるが「阿波の大仏さん」、雨乞いの寺としても知られ八百年の歴史を刻む伊賀屈指の大刹である。

緑深い山が境内地になっており、麓に大仏殿、上人堂、開山堂など十数の堂宇が建てられている。平成七年に落慶した山門は立派なものである。ご本尊は宝蔵庫に安置され、春秋大祭日と正月以外は拝観料三百円を要する。境内では桜・あじさい・もみじや秋名菊が楽しめる。
伊賀四国八十八カ所第四番霊場、東海三十六不動尊第二十八番霊場、東海白寿三十三観音十四番霊場でもある。

A temple by the name 鳳凰寺 Boo-Ji already existed in the 白鳳時代 Hakuho period (645 - 707).
This temple was founded in 1598 by 清存法印 priest Seizon Hoin.
It was large with 七堂伽藍 the uusal seven buildings.
It is an important cultural property of the prefecture.
The temple burned down in 1578 during the Tensho Iga War
and again various times during rebellions.
In 1964 the main hall was newly built.
The temple has many treasures apart from the statue of Yakushi Nyorai,
like 如意輪観音菩薩,、弘法大師,、不動明王,、阿弥陀如来,、地蔵菩薩 and 役行者

Once there was a fire in the nearby temple 高讃寺 Kosan-Ji and the two statues of
薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai and 聖観音菩薩 were bruoght here to be safe.
The statue of 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai has a small statue of Amida Nyorai in its inside.
On the transom are carvings of Buddha and the 12 important disciples.
In the cliff in front of the main hall are stone statues of
十六羅漢 the 16 Arhats.
This is a speciality of the Temple.

The main statue is a seated 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.
It is an important cultural property.
It was probably made by 春日仏師 It is placed in a small shrine in the main hall.
It is a secret statue and only shown every 33 years.
It has the characteristics of a statue from the middle-Heian period.
It is the oldest Buddha statue in the Iga district.
The statue is surrounded by 十二神将 the 12 Heavenly Generals.
During the reign of 朱雀天皇 Emperor Suzaku,
the temple was founded by 道雄大徳 Doyu Daitoku and called 長福寺 Chofuku-Ji.
During a revolte in 1582 the main hall burned down, but the Yakushi Statue was saved.
In 1615, the hall was rebuilt and the temple called 佛勝寺 Bussho-Ji.

In the Kamakura period (1185–1333) it became the family temple of 小野氏 the Ono clan.
Later it fell into decline.
During a fire the main gate and main hall were lost.
The main statue was saved.
In the Sengoku Period of "The Warring States" (1336 - 1573)
a wandering priest came here and helped to built
a small hall for the statue of Yakushi Nyorai.
In 1820, 覚英大和尚 Priest Kakuei revived the compound.
In 1907, the well water became usable for the farmers.
In 1922, the compound was widened and a new main hall was built.
In 1989, more buildings were repaired and the roof tiles renewed.

Mirokuji 弥勒寺 Miroku-Ji, Tawara

The main statue is 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.
- Chant of the temple
おん ころころ せんだり まとうぎ そわか
The temple was founded in 736 by 円了上人 Saint Enryo.
At that time, the main statue was 弥勒菩薩 Miroku Bosatsu
and the temple had a huge compound.
Around 770, 良弁上人 Saint Roben came to the temple and placed 薬師如来 a statue of Yakushi Nyorai here.
. 良弁僧正 Roben Sojo (689 - 773) .
There were also statues of Juichimen Kannon 十一面観音 Kannon with 11 faces, Sho Kannon 聖観音, 役行者 En no Gyoja and others.
Many Halls were built and destroyed over time.
The present-day main hall was built in 1979.
The most important temple treasues :
・国重要文化財 聖観音立像、木造、素地、170.5cm 藤原時代作。十一面観音立像、木造、素地、174.6cm 藤原時代作。
・県文化財 薬師如来坐像、木造、素地、143cm、藤原時代作。弥勒菩薩坐像、木造、素地、127cm、藤原~鎌倉初期作。(もと本尊)
・市文化財 役行者倚像、木造、素地寄木造、150cm、室町時代作。
Other statues were
聖観音 Sho Kannon、広目天 Komoku Ten, 多聞天 Tamon-Ten, 不動明王 Fudo Myo-O, 倶利伽羅龍王 Kurikara Ryu-O。
軸では、八方にらみの理源大師像、三宝荒神、釈迦涅槃図など多数が所蔵され、札所巡りや仏像鑑賞には欠かすことができない。
明治四十二年頃、村民の間で仏像八体を骨董商に売却する話が持ち上ったが反対論が出て無事救われたという話が残っている.
Highlights
This temple is called a treasure trove of Buddha Statues from the Fujiwara period.
On the mountain at the back of the temple around april grow many azaleas, ミヤマツツジ Miyama tsutsuji.
In June and July there flower the ajisai アジサイ hydrangeas.

Priest 中峰 Nakamine, a disciple of 天巽慶順 Tenson Keijun, had a very special talent.
Every evening he run down to the village to buy alcohol for his master.
After the death of Tenson he became a 護法天狗 protector Tengu.

(itako いたこ) who speak on behalf of the deceased .
The local Miko often tells the relatives of a diseased person
"弥勒寺詣りをしてくれ" to go to 弥勒寺 the Temple Miroku-Ji.
The relatives bring a robe of the diseased as an offering.
Therefore in the 弥勒堂 Miroku Hall there are many cloths.

The main statue is 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.

The temple was founded in 736 by 円了上人 Saint Enryo.
At that time, the main statue was 弥勒菩薩 Miroku Bosatsu
