Mount Mikami (三上山, "Mikami Yama", meaning Mikami Mountain)
a mountain, 432 metres (1,417 ft) above sea level, located in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
In spite of its relatively low altitude, it is also called "Ōmi Fuji", that is Mount Fuji of Ōmi Province, the old name of Shiga Prefecture, because of its conical shape standing out in the flat area on the shores of Lake Biwa.
At the foot of Mount Mikami is the Shintoist Mikami Shrine (御神神社, "Mikami Jinja", meaning the Gods' Shrine)
Mount Mikami, nearer to Kyoto, the traditional capital of Japan, has appeared in the Japanese literature from the ancient times. It is particularly noted for the legend of "Fujiwara no Hidesato Conquering the Giant Centipede of Mount Mikami".

Otawara is a city in Tochigi prefecture, famous for its beautiful nature and sightseeing spots. This article introduces some of Otawara’s beautiful places, temples and activities.
From the summit of Koteyasan, the entire city can be seen in all its glory.
Running through the city is a river called Nakagawa. Otawara is famous for its fresh salt-grilled sweetfish caught in Nakagawa waters. The unique sweetness of the fish combined with its soft texture makes it an ideal snack to be eaten on its own or mixed with rice.
Unganji Temple dates back to the Heian period and is known for being one of the spots visited by Matsuo Bashō, mentioned in his traveler’s journal, “Oku no Hosomichi”, or “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”.
In contrast to the pomp and splendor of the Unganji Temple, the charm of Daiōji Temple stands out through is elegance. Daiōji Temple adheres to the teachings of the Sōtō School (*3) of Zen Buddhism. At Daiōji Temple, you can practice Zen meditation under the guidance of a Zen priest.

Kamakura, Komyo-Ji

- quote -
Tenshōzan Renge-in Kōmyō-ji (天照山蓮華院光明寺)
is a Buddhist temple of the Jōdo sect in Zaimokuza, near Kamakura, Japan,
the only major one in the city to be close to the sea.
Kōmyō-ji is number one among the Kantō Jūhachi Danrin (関東十八檀林),
a group of 18 Jōdo temples established during the Edo period by Tokugawa Ieyasu,
and dedicated to both the training of priests and scholarly research.
It is also the sect's head temple for the Kantō region.
In spite of the fact it is a Jōdo sect temple, Kōmyō-ji has several of the typical features of a Zen temple,
for example a sanmon (main gate), a pond and a karesansui (rock garden).
Kōmyō-ji has always enjoyed the patronage of Japan's powerful
and is the only Buddhist temple in Kamakura to have had the privilege of being a daimyō's funeral temple.
It was chosen for that role by the Naitō clan, feudal lords from today's Miyazaki Prefecture
whose tombs are part of the temple's compound.
The temple, besides the usual Buddhist cemetery, maintains a special crypt
for the ashes of house pets and other animals, and twice a year holds in the Main Hall ceremonies in their memory.
The crypt was created and is maintained by a group of veterinarian volunteers.
The temple holds occasional music concerts in its main hall, concerts that are announced in its Web site.
For 3500 yen, visitors who make a reservation can try at Kōmyō-ji the vegetarian food the resident priests themselves eat.
Entrance is free, with the exception of the sanmon gate , which can be visited only telephoning the temple,
explaining the motives for the planned visit, making a reservation and paying a small fee.
