The temple was founded in 1280.
The main statue was 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai, made by 上宮太子 Uenomiya Taishi.
北條時頼 / 北条時頼 Hojo Tokiyori (1227 - 1263) gave it the name.
There are a many legends that Tokiyori traveled incognito throughout Japan
to inspect actual conditions to improve the lives of the people.
It became the family temple of 北條 the Hojo clan.
This small temple belongs now to the Jodo Shinshu Sect.
Uenomiya Taishi is another name for 聖徳太子 Shotoku Taishi (572 – 622).

Kumano Gongen 熊野権現 The Kumano Deity
During his travels in Japan, Gyoki Bosatsu stayed at 最明寺 the Temple Saimyo-Ji.
An old man with white hair appeared and told him that in the mountain near the temple was
yakusen 薬泉 a well with healing qualities.
When Gyoki asked the old man about his name, he said
Kumano Gongen 熊野権現 and then disappeared.

Once a poor mother left her child at the temple.
The high priest took care of it and it became a priest.
To search for his real parents, he begun to preach every day at 四天王寺 the Temple Shitenno-Ji.
Finally he could find his mother, who had gone blind.
He made offerings to Sanbo Shoten 三宝諸天 all the gread deities of hte three treasures
and oh wonder, his mother could see again.

In March of 784, the first year of the regency of 桓武天皇 Emperor Kanmu Tenno (735 – 806)
20000 gama 蝦蟇 toads came to the shore at 難波 Nanba and walked to 四天王寺 the Temple Shitenno-Ji.
After showing their respect, the animals scattered in the area.

In the West of 四天王寺 the Temple Shitenno-Ji there is a pond.
During a drought the water can all disappear.
After a rain ritual, it will soon start to rain.

ishi to ka shita ushi 石と化した牛 an ox turned stone
During the construction of 四天王寺 the Temple Shitenno-Ji the stones were transported by ushiguruma 牛車 ox carts.
When the buildings were completed, one ox turned into stone.
Its statue is now verenated in a small sanctuary in the South of the main temple.

Moriya no basson 守屋の末孫 the descendants of Moriya
The descendants of、物部守屋 Mononobe Moriya (? - 587) are still living
near the Eastenr Gate of 四天王寺 the Temple Shitenno-Ji.
During the rituals of the death of Shotoku Taishi on February 22 (old lunar calendar)
they come down from 六時堂 the Hall Rokujido, wearing a formal court dress.
Mononobe no Moriya (物部 守屋, died 587) was an Ō-muraji,
a high-ranking clan head position of the ancient Japanese Yamato state,
having inherited the position from his father Mononobe no Okoshi.
Like his father, he was a devoted opponent of Buddhism,
which had recently been introduced to Japan from the continent.

Legend had it that Prince Shōtoku Taishi was once playing the flute while riding on a horse when, suddenly,
a mountain god charmed by the melody appeared before him in the shape of a monkey and improvised a dance.
The monkey-face mask still used by the dancer could thus be taken as evidence
that the bugaku piece is a depiction of this scene.

The main Kannon statue is 聖観世音菩薩 Sho Kannon.
It was carved by 慈覚大師円仁 Jigaku Daishi Ennin .
In 1571, when 比叡山 the Temple Hieizan in Kyoto was torched,
a priest carried the statue on his back to a mountain retreat in Southern Gifu.
Around 1715 it came back to the Temple.

This temple was founded by a priest from the Nichiren sect in 1608 in 麹町清水谷 Shimizudani, Kojimachi district.
In 1634, it was relocated to its present place.

The name of the Temple was first written 安善寺 Anzen-Ji with 善,
and in 1751 changed to 安禅寺 Anzen-Ji with 禅.
In 1813 it was finally written 安禅寺 Anzen-Ji.
An important statue in the compound was Tankiri Jizo Bosatsu たん切り地蔵,
who was known to heal illness of the lungs.
When the temple was relocated, the statue of Jizo was also relocated.
At the end of WW II the temple burned down.

. O-Man no Kata お万の方 Lady O-Man .
She became the concubine of 徳川家康の側室 Tokugawa Ieyasu when she was 17.
Once おまんの方 O-Man no Kata had a strong toothache.
A priest at temple 千寿院 / 仙寿院 Senju-In in Shibuya made a 楊枝 toothpick from enoki 榎 a nettle tree.
She touched her aching tooth with this little stick and in no time her pain was gone.
This is one of the seven wonders of 千駄ヶ谷 Sendagaya, Tokyo.

. O-Man no Kata お万の方 Lady O-Man .
She became the concubine of 徳川家康の側室 Tokugawa Ieyasu when she was 17.
Once おまんの方 O-Man no Kata had a strong toothache.
A priest at temple 千寿院 / 仙寿院 Senju-In in Shibuya made a 楊枝 toothpick from enoki 榎 a nettle tree.
She touched her aching tooth with this little stick and in no time her pain was gone.
This is one of the seven wonders of 千駄ヶ谷 Sendagaya, Tokyo.

The main statue is 正観世音菩薩 Sho Kannon Bosatsu.
The statue was made by 慈覚大師 Jigaku Daishi.
. Jigaku Daishi Ennin 慈覚大師仁円 (794 – 864) .
The temple was founded in 1618 by 龍把和尚 Priest Ryuhi.
In 1619 it was located in 麹町清水谷 Kojimachi Kiyomizudani.
In 1634 it was relocated because of constructions for a moat around Edo castle.
During a fire around 1720 the buildings were lost.
Later it became a sub-temple of 知恩院 Temple Chion-In.

In 1795, it became the family temple of 長府毛利家 the Mori Clan from Chofu.

The main statue is Jizo Bosatsu.
Founded in 1558 by 松栖用鶴 near present-day Idabashi station.
Relocated in 1625 to 牛込七軒寺町 Ushigome Shichikentera district.
In 1657 荒川重照 Arakawa Shigeteru was buried here and it became
the Bodai-Ji 菩提寺 family temple of 荒川家 the Arakawa clan.
In 1874 it was united with 爽山寺 the temple Kanzan-Ji (夾山寺 Kyozan-Ji).
The statue of Enmei Jizo was placed there. Now better known as 鳳林寺のお地蔵さん Horin-Ji no O-Jizo San.
In 1941 it was relocated to its present location due to the building of new roads in Tokyo.
In 地蔵堂 the Jizo-Do Hall is a statue of
yakuyoke kosodate enmei Jizo 厄よけ子育ての延命地蔵尊

They were brought to a priest in 軽米 Karumai hamlet.
But this priest was also possessed and driven out of the hamlet.
Finally a priest who had trained at 安養寺 the Temple Anyo-Ji in 二戸 Nihone could drive the fox out.

In the nearby village of 蜷川村 Hirukawa at 最明寺 the Temple Saimyo-Ji they keep memorials of 北条早雲 Hojo Soun,
who used the fish scale pattern as his family crest.
The memorials were kept at 安養寺 the temple Anyo-Ji before.

称名寺 the Temple Shomyo-Ji に,幽霊寄進の梵鐘がある。延宝・天和の頃,同地の高橋某という侍が隣村佐倉村に情婦を囲い,本妻に辛く当たった。しかし離縁の口実がなく,遂に情婦と計ってこれを謀殺してしまった。本妻は,本宅に納まった情婦に恨みを晴らすため夜毎戸口まで迷ってくるが,そこに貼ってあった神符のために入ることができない。そこで妻の亡霊は親戚に頼み,小判数枚を与えて神符を剥がしてもらった。間もなく情婦は本妻にとり殺されてしまった。親戚某は亡霊から梵鐘を鋳て菩提寺に寄進するようにとも頼まれていたので,夫を訪ねて青銅に亡霊からの小判を合金し,梵鐘を造らせて称名寺に寄進した。この梵鐘は現存し鐘銘には右の由来が彫られている。年代は元禄六(1693)年林鐘初八日,施主は高橋八郎兵衛平常,住持可伝上人,冶工早山五郎次清次。

栗野大膳の北目城が常に黒雲に覆われて攻めにくいのは、城の守護神毘沙門のためだというので、伊達政宗は「今より立派なお堂を建てて奉斎するからお力を貸してほしい」と願をかけたら、雲が晴れて城を落とせた。約束通り仙台に移すとき、敵味方どっちの願いも叶える毘沙門ではあてにならぬと、荒町で捨ててしまった。近所の子供がかついで遊ぶのを見つけ、大人たちが堂を建て、梵鐘を奉納したが重くて吊るせない。子供たちの知恵で鐘の下に板を差し込み高くして吊るすことができた。毘沙門はお礼に、子供達の「赤ん坊のお守をさせないで」との願いを聞き、それ以来荒町では子供に子守をさせない。祭には毘沙門の好きな子供角力を奉納する。

高前寺 the Temple Kozen-Ji の梵鐘は一名横取りの梵鐘といい、日蓮宗に信仰のある富豪が奉納したものであるが、完成した後富士川の鰍沢から身延山を目指しての下りの船で天神ヶ滝の難所を過ぎて鴨狩に近付いたときに奇石に座礁した。この巌に竜波穴と称する謎の巌谷があり、難破の彼方に白髪の女人が現れて申すには、梵鐘は近くの寺に納めて、身延山奉納は改めてみてはどうかという意味だった。それにより 高前寺に納めたため、横取りの梵鐘という。

Toyama cho 戸山町 Toyama district
戸山一丁目 -戸山三丁目 from the first to the third sub-district
This lowland area was originaly called 和田戸 Wadato.
Toyama 1st district was originally part of 戸塚村 Totsuka village.
In 1671, 代姫 Princess Chiyo Hime, the daughter of 徳川家光 Tokugawa Iemitsu married
Lord 徳川家光友 Lord Tokugawa Mitsutomo from 尾張 Owari, the villagers of this area were relocated
and the new building called 戸山荘 Toyama Villa.
The park was one of the great parks in Edo, beside 小石川後楽園 Koishikawa Korakuen Park.
The area was often hit by wind and water damage.
Later the area was called 戸山ヶ原 Toyamagahara and part of the army was located there.
In 1949, the area was called 戸山ハイツ Toyama Hights.
In 1981, the area was named Toyama cho 戸山町 "Toyama town" by the inhabitants.
This name is still used nowadays at shops and bus stations.

The Kannon statue is 正観世音菩薩 Sho Kannon.
The main statue is 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai.
The temple was founded in 1651 by 稲垣善右衛門 Inagaki Zenemon.
In 1627, the main building was erected.
