聖観世音菩薩

そのかみの 祇園精舎を 名におえる 寺のみほとけ おがむうれしさ

This temple of the Zen sect was built on request of 德川家康 Tokugawa Ieyasu
by 金地院崇伝 Priest Konchi-In Suden in 1619 and moved to its present location in 1639.
Suden had been abbot in 京都南禅寺金地院 Kyoto, Nanzen-Ji Konchi-In before he came to Edo.
The main buildings burned down in 1767 and 1811 and finally during the Tokyo Air Raid in 1945.
The present hall was built in 1954.

Imprtant advisor to Tokugawa Ieyasu.

The gemple was founded in 1600 by priest 僧無念 Munen.
In the beginning it was a retreat for a priest from temple 済海寺 Saikai-Ji.
During the Second World War, most of the buildings burned down, but the main hall was safe.
In 2013, most other buildings were recreated.

昔より たつともしらぬ いまくまの ほとけのちかひ あらたなりけり

Located on the sea side of Tsuki no Misaki highland, next to Kamezuka Koen Park.
The temple was founded in 1626 by 念無和尚 Priest Nenmu (? - 1663)from Shiga
on request from 長岡藩主 the Lord of Nagaoka, 牧野忠成 Makino Tadanari (1581 - 1655).
The bemple became the family temple of the Makino clan.
The main statue is 阿彌陀如来 Amida Nyorai.

The 亀塚観音 Kamezuka Kannon Statue is in a special 観音堂 Kannon Hall.

Nearby is
Kamezuka Jinja 亀塚神社 Kamezuka Shrine.

身をわけて 救う乙女の 魚かごに 誓の海の　深きをぞ知る

Gyoranji is located in the mountain side of Tsuki no Misaki.
The name was chosen because the principal image is Gyoran Kanzeon Bosatsu (魚藍観世音菩薩), whose figure is a maiden with her hair tied in a Chinese style topknot (唐様).
The following is a Chinese tale of the time of the Tang dynasty.
The Buddha appeared in a beautiful maiden's figure, selling fish in a bamboo basket, and spread Buddhism.
The sculpture was made based on this story.

In 1652, the temple was moved to its present location at a slope, which then got the same name, 魚藍坂 Gyoranzaka.

The statue is in the 観音堂 Kannon-Do hall.

The main statue is 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai.

The temple was founded in 1643 by 郡上八幡城主 the lord of the castle from Gujo Hachiman 青山大蔵少輔幸成 Aoyama Yoshinari (1586 - 1643) as the family temple for his clan. The graves show 13 genertions.
The buildings burned down many times and were always rebuilt.
The predent modern buliding is from 2004 and has two floors.

In the compound is 観音堂 the Kannon Hall.

逆縁も もらさで救う 観世音 我が身はなれず 添いたもうなり

The main statue is 釈迦牟尼仏 Shakamuni Buddha.
The temple has been founded in 1597.
The temple has been revitalized in 1630 by 久山正雄大和尚 great priest Masao on behalf of the lord from Tosa, Ishigo Katsumasa 石河土佐守勝政.

On the way to the temple are the famous 炮烙地蔵 Horoku Jizo statues. They were placed to atone for the fire caused by Yaoya O-Shichi.

. Yaoya no O-Shichi 八百屋お七 Greengrocer's Daughter Oshichi .
started the fire in this temple.

The main hall burned down various times and the present building is from the early Showa period.

Founded in 1533 by 三蓮社縁譽稱念上 priest Shonen as a hermitage with the name of 天地庵 Tenchi-An.
Relocated to its present place in 1611.
In 1623 it was granted more land by Shogun Hidetada.
One of the four 江戸浄土宗四ヶ寺 Temples of the Jodo Sect in Edo.
People who want to see the statue of Kannon must make an appointment.

Kawai, Senro [Senro; Bokusen; Usen; Tansō; Kyūsetsu Jōjin; Chigen Dojin]
Japanese seal-carver, scholar and connoisseur. He was the son of Kawai Sen’emon, a Kyoto seal-engraver.
He studied Chinese classics with Hayashi Sōkyō and became the pupil of Shinoda Kaishin (1827–1902), who followed the style of seals used by painters of the Chinese Zhe school in the 15th and 16th centuries; in this genre Senro showed exceptional ability. In 1900 Senro went to China, where he studied under Wu Changshi, with whom he had previously corresponded. Under Wu he learnt modern carving techniques. After returning to Japan and passing his family name to a pupil, he went to live in Tokyo at the invitation of the patron Mitsui Teihiyō [Takakata] (1867–1945).
Subsequently he visited China almost every year and concentrated on importing and studying Qing period (1644–1911) calligraphy, painting and culture. ...

At 天徳寺 temple Tentoku-Ji in 愛宕下 Atago-shita there is a demon roof tile with a tokin 兜巾 （ときん）Buddhist hood.
Once upon a time, there was a fire and the sparks seemed to set the roof in flames. From this roof tile water begun to spray and the fire was extinguished.
