The main statue is Yakushi Nyorai 薬師如来, with 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai and 聖観音 Sho-Kannon Bosatus at his side.
The statue of Amida Nyorai was made by carver 安阿弥 Annami, who had come from Korea.

- Chant of the temple

The temple was founded by 弘法大師 Kobo Daishi when he was in the area at 西光密寺 the Temple Saikomitsu-Ji.
In the Kamakura period the temple was called 黒髪三所大権現 Kurokami Sansho Daigongen und under the protection of
後藤貴明 Lord Saito Kataakira (1534 - 1583).
In the Meiji Restauration in 1868 the temple became abandoned.
The Temple has a small bronze statue of 白衣観音 Byakue Kannon with a white robe,
which was most probably made for 隠れキリシタン the hidden Christians of the area.
This statue is also called 隠れキリシタン観音 Kannon for the Hidden Christians.

sokonashida 底なし田 a "field without a bottom"
In former times, there was a field "without a bottom" near 東光寺 the Temple Toko-Ji.
Nobody dared to plant rice near them.
Once a farmer dared to plant rice, but soon his wife became very ill
and could not work the whole year. The husband worked alone during summer
but both died in winter.
