The statue is shown to the public in January, May and September and attracts large crowds.
When Gengaku had first built his hermitage there came a strange man with a backpack and stood in front of it for one night, asking to be accepted as a disciple. When Roben gave it to his ancestor, he said it would protect the family from burglers, robbers and all kinds of disasters. Roben had carved it at the temple 相州大山寺 Oyamadera, where the ancestors of this man had helped him a lot and got the statue as a thank-you present.
