藤嶋 Fujishima
Two villagers had picked up a statue of 千手観世音菩薩 Kannon with 1000 Arms and brought it to Fujishima, where they built a thatched hut to venerate her. Suddenly Kannon appeared and told them she was in fact 阿弥陀仏 Buddha Amida.
When they told this to 行基 Gyoki Bosatsu, he made two more statues, one of 阿弥陀 Amida and one of 勢至 Seishi and placed the three in the hut, with Amida in the middle.
This hut was now called
Susa no koji 須佐の古寺 The old temple at Susa and is now Gokurakuji 極楽寺 Temple Gokuraku-Ji.

高浪判四郎 Takanami Hanshiro from 豊浜町 Toyohama town had found a statue of 千手観音 Kannon with 1000 Arms in his fishing net and venerated her at 岩屋寺 the Temple Iwayadera.
This was more than 1200 years ago.
Since then the Takanami family were ardent visitors to the temple Iwayadera.
In 1921 the home of the family next door burned to the ground, but the Takanami home was hardly burned.
This was because of the protection from Kannon Sama.

On the ceiling of 千手観音堂 the Senju Kannon Do Hall from the Momoyama period the painter had painted a ryuu 竜 dragon.
The dragon often went to the river to enjoy himself.
But the painting was later stolen.

In the compound of the temple for Kitamuki Kannon 北向観音 "Kannon facing North" this tree is venerated.
In 825 there was a great fire.
Soon Senju Kannon 千手観音 Kannon with 1000 Arms appeared on this tree and helped the people find safety.

O-Hana Kannon お花観音 "Kannon for the girl O-Hana"
In the graveyard of the Temple Ungo-Ji is a statue of 千手観音 Kannon Bosatsu with 1000 Arms.
It is in memory of a tragic love story and illness, dating back to around 1700.
At the estate of the chief retainer, a certain 大橋 Ohashi, there worked a girl named O-Hana.
The chief retainer started to visit her every night.
His wife became crazy with jealousy, killed the girl and threw her into an old well.
Soon the wife became ill herself, haunted by the spirit of O-Hana.
Ohashi now had a statue of 千手観音 Kannon Bosatsu with 1000 arms made and placed into his family temple, 雲居寺 Ungo-Ji to appease the soul of O-Hana.
People now come here to pray for recovery of illness.
