The Kannon statue is 聖観世音菩薩 Sho Kannon Bosatsu.
The statue was carved by 弘法大師 Kobo Daishi.
At her sides are statues of 不動明王 Fudo Myo-O and 愛染明王 Aizen Myo-O.

The temple was founded around 730 by 行基菩薩 Gyoki Bosatsu
on request of 聖武天皇 (724~49) Emperor Shomu Tenno.
The Kannon statue was carved by 弘法大師 Kobo Daishi.
He used the technique of itto sanrai 一刀三礼 carving one stroke with the blade and praying three times.
The temple was revived on request of 花山法皇 Emperor Kazan Tenno (968 - 1008).
When the Emperor stayed in the area, the village was called
Tomari mura 泊村 "Village where (the Emperor) stayed over night" - Tomari.
During local wars the Kannon statue was placed into the well and survived.
The well water became known as 延命長寿 Water for long life and health".
In the compound is a statue of Kobo Daishi.
To the South of the main hall is Kannon Do 観音堂 a Hall for Kannon Bosatsu.
In the compound is also Hōkyōintō 宝篋印塔 a Hokyoin PagodaTower, build in 1743.
