The main statue is 千手観音 Senju Kannon.

The temple was founded in the Heian period, more than 2000 years ago, by 伝教大師最澄 Dengyo Daishi.
In 源平時代 the Genpei Period (around 1180) it was held by the warlord 菊池隆直 Kikuchi Takanao (? - 1185).
He offered a statue of 不動明王 Fudo Myo-O to pray for victory.
The statue of Kannon Bosatsu is from the Muromachi period (1336 - 1573).
Around 930, the wife of 朱雀天皇 Emperor Suzaku Tenno could not become pregnant
and the Emperor sent an envoy here to pray for a child.
The envoy prayed for 7 days in the Kannon hall.
Then 村上天皇 the 62nd Emperor Murakami (926 - 967) was born.
Now women come here to pray for pregnancy.
