The 阿弥陀堂 Amida Do Hall was located at 岩倉公会堂 the Iwakura Community Center.
If pregnant women went there to pray, they would have an easy birth.

In 1595 it was rebuilt.

hotoke no kuchiyose ホトケノ口寄セ ritual to call a dead person
Before World War II there was a special ritual at 八葉寺阿弥陀堂 the Amida Hall of the Temple Hachiyo-Ji.
A medium would call the soul of dead person and communicate with it.

. sugi no ki 杉の木と伝説 Legends about the cedar tree .
In former times there was 阿弥陀堂 an Amida Do Hall where a large Buddha statue was venerated.
Nearby is 巨樹の大杉 the largest cedar tree of Miyagi prefecture.
Women come here to pray to become pregnant and give a safe birth.
The huge tree is also called Mida no Sugi 弥陀の杉 and sometimes
Daruma Sugi 達磨杉, Cedar of Daruma Daishi.

Miyagi 気仙沼市 Kesennuma city 鹿折 Shishiori

At 常念寺 the temple Jonen-Ji there is 阿弥陀堂 an Amida Do Hall.
Once upon a time, the head of the main Buddha statue bame off and flew away, falling down in the fields.
Next morning the villagers found the head in the field.
They made a body for the head and placed it in the 阿弥陀堂 an Amida Do Hall.

enoki 榎 nettletree,komochi enoki 子持榎
In the North-West of 阿弥陀堂 the Amida Do Hall there is a mound where some relics of 安徳天皇 Emperor Antoku Tenno are buried.
It is called Tennozuka 天皇塚 Mound of the Emperor.
On top of the mound is enoki 榎 a nettletree.
Women came here, embraced the teee with the wish to become pregnant and take a small stone home.
The tree is no longer there, but its roots are still visible.

asekaki Amida 汗かき阿弥陀 sweating Amida
At 阿弥陀堂 the Amida Do Hall in Moriai there are gochi Nyorai 五智如来 five Nyorai Statues.
Four of them are made from iron.
Once upon a time, a rich man from Tateishi was told that he would fall to hell alive and never die.
Once an itinerant priest told him to make 1000 mounds and place 1000 Sutras there.
Then he should make five statues of the Nyorai Buddhas.
One of the statues should be placed into the pond in the garden of the man.
The statue would start sweating if something bad was going to happen.
Thus it became known as the "Sweating Amida" to the villagers.

honzon no tatari 本尊の祟り the curse of the Amida Buddha statue
Now it does not exist any more, but once there was a temple related to 円通寺 Entsu-Ji in Nakajo.
Around 1835 there was a large fire and only the main statue and 阿弥陀堂 the Amida Do Hall remained.
The statue was all black from the fire and should never be shown to people again.
If someone would look at the statue, there would seen be a fire in the village.

shichinin no misaki 七人御崎 death of seven people
In the compound of 阿弥陀堂 the Amida Do Hall there are seven gorinto 五輪塔 grave stupas for seven people.
Once upon a time, the rich headman of the village feared about his treasures.
He had them put into seven earthwear pots and asked seven people to carry them on their backs.
When they reached 阿弥陀堂 the Amida Do Hall he asked them to burry them in the ground.
Then he killed the seven men.

. matsu 松と伝説 Legends about the pine tree / 松の木 matsu no ki .
At the remains of 阿弥陀堂 the Amida Do Hall there was once an old matsu 松 pine tree.
Once a man wanted to re-plant it to another place, but he got cursed.
The pine tree withered in 1794, but its roots did not decay.
If people prayed her for rain, rain would fall.

Minamoto no Tsunemoto 源経基
When 六孫王経基 Rokuson-O Tsunetomo was governor of 武蔵 the Musashi region,
he ordered 阿弥陀堂 an Amida Do Hall to be built at 満願寺 the temple Mangan-Ji.
He went outside the temple, shot an arrow in the Northern direction and where it fell down, the Hall was to be built.
Now there is a bamboo grove nearby, and they say it started where the arrow of Tsunemoto fell to the ground.

. shirohebi / hakuja 白蛇と伝説 Legends about white serpents .
In the hamlet 花倉 Hanakura there is a small 阿弥陀堂 Amida Do Hall.
In its left side shirohebi 白蛇 a white serpent is venerated - 花倉白蛇 Hanakura Shirohebi.
Below a giant rock is a hole where the serpent lived.
Until about 100 years ago, villagers always saw too white serpents.
The villagers used to ask the white serpent for a favor and were usually granted it.

kitsuneppi 狐っ火 / キツネッピ Kitsunebi in local dialect
加藤憲明 Kato Noriaki once saw kitsuneppi 狐っ火 a fox fire near 阿弥陀堂 the Amida Do Hall.
It looked almost like a group of hotaru 蛍 fireflies.
